How can you get the most out of your podcast?
Every day, I see business owners and thought leaders leaving money and influence on the table, well, technically, in their podcasts, because they aren’t taking full advantage of the opportunities that their podcasts are creating.
You’re working hard to get your podcast out into the world. You deserve to get more out of it! I’m giving you 10 simple tactics to get you started.
You Need a Stronger Call to Action (CTA)
Subscribe, Rate, and Review is a lame call to action. Get creative. Have some fun. Your CTA should serve the dual purpose of driving engagement and providing value to your audience. What is the next step you want your audience to take with you and your show? Tell them in your call to action!
Optimizing Show Notes and Descriptions
Never underestimate the power of well-crafted show notes and video descriptions. These areas are prime real estate to add value for your audience by including direct links to any resources, offers, or social media channels mentioned.
Include timestamps in this section to help your listeners easily navigate to the segments they are most interested in. Include keywords in your timestamp labels to help boost your SEO.
Use Your Podcast to Start a Conversation with Your Community
Is your podcast a monologue or the start of a meaningful dialogue? Invite your listeners to leave comments and share their thoughts. You can significantly boost your engagement while fostering a sense of community.
Platforms like YouTube and Spotify make it easier than ever to communicate with your listeners. Respond to comments and questions to get to know your listeners better.
Build Playlists on Spotify and YouTube
Share your content through playlists and categories to help new listeners navigate your back catalog more efficiently. For instance, creating a ‘New Listener Starter Pack’ or organizing episodes into themed playlists enhances discoverability and keeps your audience engaged. This strategy is especially advantageous for platforms like Spotify and YouTube.
You’re Missing Out if You Aren’t Doing Video
I understand that the idea of being on camera can feel daunting. I resisted it for years in my podcasts, but there’s just too much upside not to do it now.
Short clips and full episodes can be repurposed and shared across social media platforms, exponentially increasing your reach. YouTube is the second-largest search engine globally.
Is it too late to start recording a video podcast if I started doing audio only?
No. Even if you decide not to publish a full video version. Get in the habit of recording videos to use for social media clips.
Repurpose the Episodes Into Blog Posts
Each podcast episode or YouTube video represents a treasure trove of content that can and should be repurposed. When you transform your episode into blog posts, you cater to varied content consumption preferences while boosting your site’s SEO. This multi-channel approach ensures you reach a wider audience and provide them with the flexibility to consume your content in a way that suits them best.

Leveraging Older Content and Episodes
Your earlier podcast episodes are valuable assets that shouldn’t be overlooked. Referencing and linking to relevant older episodes in your new content can help new listeners dive deeper into your archive, providing ongoing value and increasing overall engagement.
Make it Easier for Listeners to Subscribe to Your Podcast in Their Favorite App
Create a smart link that facilitates one-click subscriptions across major podcasting platforms. Ensuring minimal friction in this process can significantly boost your follower count.

Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube are essential places to publish your podcast. Don’t overlook the smaller podcast directories. The more platforms your podcast is available on, the better your chances of discovery.
Small Efforts Create Big Results
